Islam involves submitting your will to Allah. Accepting His will but more importantly being content with it.

The Sabr of our Prophets

We are so impatient in our lives. Just by looking at the prophets of Islam we can easily realise how truly impatient we are.

Our prophets were purer of hearts and better at making dua to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala but even they were tested by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala for their patience. And what beautiful sabr they had.

Even our Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam had received his revelation of the Holy Quran only at the age of 40!! Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala thought it was apt for him to receive it at that age. It shows that Allah has decided a time for everything, we have to be patient and accept that Allah will provide at the right time.

Yaqoob Alayhi As-Salaam had lost his dearest son Yusuf Alayhi As-Salaam due to the actions of Yusuf Alayhi As-Salaam 's brothers. So Yaqoob Alayhi As-Salaam did not loose faith in Allah. He prayed to Allah about his grief and then what did he do? He patiently waited. When Yusuf
Alayhi As-Salaam was separated from his dear father he was a little boy but when he re-united with his father, he had grown into a young man. Yaqoob Alayhi As-Salaam had patiently waited all those years without even seeing his young child. If you imagine that state it will bring tears to your eyes. But  Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gave him great rewards for his patience when Yusuf Alayhi As-Salaam returned in high position in the King's administration.

What about Ibrahim Alayhi As-Salaam? He had prayed to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala many centuries ago for a prophet for his people.

Our Lord! Send amongst them a Messenger of their own (and indeed Allah answered their invocation by sending Muhammad Peace be upon him ), who shall recite unto them Your Verses and instruct them in the Book (this Quran) and Al-Hikmah (full knowledge of the Islamic laws and jurisprudence or wisdom or Prophethood, etc.), and sanctify them. Verily! You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.”

It was after so many centuries that his prayer was fulfilled through our Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam.

These are only a few examples of the Sabr of our great prophet's. There are so many more. We get impatient with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala over the slightest of things. Waiting may be a week, a month, a year or 5 years. But what about those prophets who waited 20, 40 or even centuries. How can you and I ever say we were those with Sabr?

I leave you to decide.

May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gives us the beautiful Sabr that he mentions in the Holy Quran. Ameen
